Thomas Francis McCann Jr.
Commander Thom “Tank” McCann passed away suddenly at his home in San Antonio, TX on November 25, 2021 at the age of 61.
After receiving his degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota, Tank spent 27 years in the United States Navy, protecting his country and fighting for freedom around the globe. In his highly accomplished career, he will be remembered as a great warrior, leader, mentor and man.
Tank was an aviator attached to an S-3B Viking Squadron VS-31. He performed 11 cruises to the middle east having landed on a carrier deck over 500 times in his career. He held many positions beyond his Naval aviation duties, including Weapons & Tactics Instructor at NAS Cecil Field, Branch Chief at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Commander, U.S. Naval Central Forces, Country Engagement Officer based in Bahrain. Tank traveled, lived and worked in more than 20 countries Worldwide.
He was the middle child born to Thomas Francis McCann, Sr and Lois McCann in Shoreview, MN. Thom is survived by his wife Onanong, daughter Katlyn, grandson Tommy and his favorite pooches: Jaws, Itchy, Tough Guy and Freedom; Brothers Patrick (Gayle), Dennis (Susan Maloney), Michael and John (Lisa) and many Nieces/Nephews and Great Nieces/Nephews. He was preceded in death by Thomas Sr., Lois, Diane McCann and Mollie McCann.
