Bob Basten
Age 52, of North Oaks Lived 10 years with ALS. Saturday, March 3, 2012 surrounded by his family, Bob gave life everything he had to the very end.
Survived by his wife, Faith; children, Jack and Emily; siblings, Paula Basten Erath (Barry), Lloyd Basten (JoAnn) and Rich Rajacich (Jean); and his second mother, Millie Nelson.
In accordance with his dedication to find a cure for ALS, Bob has donated his brain and spinal cord to support research into the tie between sports related brain injuries and ALS.
Bob grew up in Northbrook, Ill. with a pack of delightfully-unruly friends, friendships that would last a lifetime. He was an excellent student and a natural athlete. This earned recruitments from many colleges. He chose Saint Johns University where he played football and made many wonderful lifelong friends. After graduation Bob was a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. He was injured during training camp, so rather than saying he played with the Vikings, Bob liked to say he practiced with them.
